What is Ancient Jade

If you are interested in Chinese jade collecting, there is a very import definition to know that is “Ancient Jade (GuYu)”. A lot of jewelers might claim their jade is Ancient Jade. However, it can be very misleading.

Strictly speaking, “Ancient Jade (GuYu)” shall be dated back before Han Dynasty (202BC). In Chinese pronunciation, “Gu Yu” means Ancient Jade while it also can be translated as Antique Jade. So some jewelers might play around this definition and cheat you of the price.
